What is Building Blocks?

Building Blocks is a free playgroup for children ages 6 months to 5 years with special needs and their caregiver. It is hosted by John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Olmsted. The playgroup is facilitated by a church staff member, a retired CCBDD Developmental Specialists, and a retired Cleveland Elementary School Teacher.

The purpose of Building Blocks is to provide:

  • A safe, friendly and stimulating environment
  • The opportunity for children to explore a variety of play activities
  • The chance for children to play alongside their peers
  • The opportunity for children to participate in a short circle time
  • Local families to connect and establish relationships

When and where does Building Blocks meet?
We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month (excluding August) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. This is a large, carpeted room which allows for a variety of play activities.

Can siblings and other family members attend?
Siblings, grandparents and other family members are always welcome.

Can the professional staff members who work with my family attend?
All professionals who work with you and your child are welcome to attend. They do not need to call ahead.

What if the playgroup is canceled due to weather or other circumstances?
We try very hard to keep to the schedule. If North Olmsted Schools are closed for any reason, the playgroup is canceled. If the church is closed for any reason, we will notify you by e-mail as soon as possible.

Is there a snack time?
We do not schedule a snack time as we are aware that many children have allergies and special needs regarding eating. You are welcome to bring a snack for your child.

Do we need to attend every session?
Each session is a “stand alone” session so you are welcome to attend when you can.

We are so happy to have you! If you have more questions, please contact Mindi (John Knox Midweek Program Coordinator) at or our Developmental Specialist Beckie at
