Help Eradicate Hunger
“Speak out for the rights of all who are destitute. Defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)
As Christians, we are called to seek justice, care for those experiencing hunger and poverty, and embrace our Creator’s vision of hope, love, and peace. We are called to embody this in public as we commit to live in solidarity with those who are made vulnerable by the inequities that drive hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world.
Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger.
The mission of Bread for the World is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
One way we can support their efforts is to participate in the annual letter writing campaign to our U.S. Senators and Representatives urging them to support the Farm Bill that is scheduled to be reauthorized in 2023. No legislation has more impact on the U.S. food system and the nation’s ability to provide healthy food at affordable prices to everyone than the Farm Bill. Bread for the World’s Farm Bill priorities include a focus on nutrition, equity and sustainability.
Join Be the Bridge on Sunday, May 21 following worship to write letters or pick up supplies to write letters at home. Sample letters are available. All ages are encouraged to participate. Notes and pictures from children reportedly make a huge impression on the lawmakers. The letters and pictures from John Knox will be presented and blessed on Sunday, May 28. Our letters will be joined with letters from churches all over the U.S. and delivered to Congress in June. They do make a difference!
