Music Ministries

O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! (Psalm 98:1)

Music at John Knox Presbyterian Church

John Knox has a dynamic music ministry, which includes a choral choir, handbell choir, flute ensemble and praise band. Music is an integral part of worship: it offers praise to our heavenly Father, expresses feelings of joy and celebration, and serves as a vehicle for meditation and reflection. Music nurtures the soul!

The musical ensembles at John Knox perform for Sunday worship services from September through May and present two concerts a year, one at Christmas and another in the spring. New members are always welcome! If you enjoy singing, ringing or playing instruments, you can find an opportunity to make music here.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a diverse group of individuals who enjoy praising the Lord with song. The choir presents a wide variety of choral repertoire for Sunday worship and for the Christmas and spring concerts. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 pm and sings for worship service twice a month. Anyone interested in joining the choir should contact Craig Galinski, Director of Music, at the church or cgalinski@johnknoxpc.org.

Chancel Bell Choir

John Knox’ Chancel Bell Choir is one instrument – played by 14 people! The bell choir plays hymn arrangements, transcriptions and original works on five octaves of Schulmerich handbells and four octaves of Malmark handchimes. The bells perform in Sunday worship the 2nd Sunday of the month and rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 pm. You’ve never played a bell? If you can count to six, you can learn how to play. Contact Bell Director Cheryl Onesky to learn how to play bells or join the ensemble.

Flute Ensemble

John Knox flute ensemble brings together flutists with varying abilities for fun and fellowship. This ensemble performs in the Christmas and spring concerts and at a summer service. On occasion, flutists will accompany the Chancel Choir and Bell Choir for worship. The flute ensemble meets once a week approximately two months before a concert, typically Thursday evenings from 7 – 8 pm. Ask for Betty Dimond at info@johnknoxpc.org for more information.

Remix praise band

John Knox has many talented musicians, including a small group of instrumentalists that play together in the praise band “Remix.” The band includes guitarists, percussionists, keyboard players and vocalists. The band performs contemporary music for John Knox’ intergenerational service and other services. The band rehearses on an ad hoc basis.

If you play an instrument, you are welcome to share your talents at a summer worship service or at John Knox’ concerts. Contact Ben Jose at tech@johnknoxpc.org for more information.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet. Praise him with the harp and the lyre, praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with the strings and pipe! (Psalm 150:3-4)
